You have probably noticed the concentration on a child's face when sifting sand through his/her fingers. Children explore the world through touch and these sensory experiences can be therapeutic, improve motor skills and contribute to development of the brain. Knitting, needlework and piano all require a certain dexterity and nimbleness of touch that are perfect for this purpose.

When my nephew was little, he was taught to call me Loulou, being easier than Louise. As he got older, it changed to Aunty Loulou and I've been Aunty Loulou to all the kids since then.
